From the Old Church

Our first newsletter since the thing that happened to us all, happened. We are here and open in the heart of Stoke Newington. A space to come together, celebrate the creativity of our local community, produce great events and enjoy.
First, a Little Update

So far this year we have launched several EPs, promoted music gigs and hosted three festivals, Stoke Newington Contemporary Music, Stoke Newington Early Music and Hocus Folkus. We have put on shows for children, comedy nights, and co-produced the first play written in English by a woman, Elizabeth Cary (1613). We have hired out for film, TV, music reels, and welcomed weddings and parties. We work with local community groups and schools and launched our inaugural ‘Made by Us’ producers’ programme.

Coming Soon
Made By Us is our first community festival for local people that will include live performances and workshops. Taking place over 2nd-4th September, this is the fulfilment of a three-month project where local people are learning how to programme, produce and promote events.
We are a Very Old Church
It is gossiped that Elizabeth I may have visited and certainly over the last 450 odd years, the place has seen a lot of action. A meeting place of people and ideas. The Old Church has a perfect acoustic and a great vibe.
Time has taken its toll and we are in need of urgent repairs to sustain the integrity of the building. We are launching a fun to keep the ceilings intact and the walls from crumbling.

Help us keep our wonky doors open.
Make a Difference in your Community
Volunteer and Join our Board of Trustees

Help us reflect our diverse neighbourhood. We welcome applications from the widest range of backgrounds, from all who believe their talents can help The Old Church to realise our cultural, social and financial ambitions. We are currently recruiting new trustees and look to appoint a new chairperson and treasurer. We are particularly eager to hear from first-time trustees as well as people with professional experience of performance, venues, finance and charity fundraising.
Volunteer as a Trustee
Share Skills and Spare TimeThe Old Church is only able to open its amazing space with the generous contribution of volunteers. We rely on your help to open the venue. We need ushers and bar staff and we are looking for people who want to learn the technical aspects of our events.
Practical skills including painting and gardening would be greatly appreciated. Please contact deirdre@theoldchurch.org.uk for a chat about volunteering.Thank you for taking the time to read this.
We look forward to meeting you and wish you a cool summer.Deirdre and the team at The Old Church, Stoke Newington.
