Hoxton WEst low traffic neighbourhoodRebuilding a greener Hackney: have your sayLocal residents and businesses are being urged to have their say on the Council’s radical transport plans to rebuild a greener Hackney post-lockdown.The plans are aimed at supporting people to walk, cycle and shop locally as public transport capacity remains low, securing the benefits – like cleaner air, less traffic and higher levels of active travel – that lockdown brought to the capital.New low traffic neighbourhoods are being implemented in Hackney Downs and Hoxton West this week, with construction starting on a low traffic neighbourhood in London Fields on 7 September. This is in addition to plans to introduce School Streets at 40 additional primary schools in September, create new protected cycle lanes on Queensbridge Road and Green Lanes and further measures to be announced soon. All residents and businesses in low traffic neighbourhoods will still be able to drive to their homes, which may be via different routes.Have your sayZero Waste challengeTake the #ZeroWasteChallengeResidents could be in with a chance of winning £50 to spend in local zero waste shops if they reduce their non-recyclable waste next month, as part of Hackney Council’s #ZeroWasteChallenge. Hackney Council is encouraging residents to go zero waste this September and reduce their impact on the planet, by throwing away less waste and charting their progress.
