Free winter event for older Council tenants and leaseholders
Food, live music, and lots of advice on keeping warm, healthy and happy over the coming colder months, is the focus of this year’s winter event aimed at residents aged 55 and over. The Winter Warmer takes place at Stoke Newington Town Hall, Church Street, on Thursday 28 November from 11am-3pm.
The free, hugely popular Council showcase, is an opportunity for older Council tenants and leaseholders to mingle with neighbours, and find out about services and activities aimed at them in Hackney.
Here’s what attendees can expect:
A platform to chat to Council officers and others about health, community safety, and wellbeing issues, and find out what support and services are open to them.
Live music including vintage swing and jazz band.
Raffles, arts and crafts, and a mini pop-up exhibition celebrating 100 Years of Council Housing in Hackney
Consultation on full fibre internet for social housing residents
Hackney Council is working to enable the installation of modern full fibre internet connections to all social housing in the borough so that tenants and leaseholders will have access to some of the fastest and most reliable connections in London at some of the most affordable prices.
We are seeking the views of Council tenants and leaseholders regarding this work so that we can use your input to shape the plans we take forward. We will take your priorities into account in negotiations with internet providers.
Come along to new festival for residents north of the borough
Council residents living in the north of the borough – Clapton, Stamford Hill and Stoke Newington – are invited to come along to a new, free festival on Thursday 28 November, at Stoke Newington Town Hall, Church Street, between 5-8pm.
The Our Homes Festival, which gives residents a chance to talk directly to staff from all sections of Housing Services, is part of the Council’s drive to bring information, advice and opportunities (such as employment) directly into communities. It’s also a good opportunity for residents to get to know their neighbours. There will also be free food, arts and crafts, live music, and more.
Our Homes Festival launched in the summer at Hoxton Market for those south of the borough. The festival will come to the east and west neighbourhoods next year.
