An exhibition celebrating the past, present and future of
council homes will be held in Hackney Town Hall on Tuesday
29 October, 6-9pm.
This year is the 100th anniversary of council housing and to mark the major milestone, the Council has gathered social histories from residents who live in council homes and estates, as well as first-hand accounts from employees responsible for building and maintaining some of its most iconic buildings and estates.
Visitors to the exhibition will get a chance to learn about what kick-started the social housing revolution; understand the council house-building boom of the midcentury; as well as get to grips with the drivers behind its decline – and what Hackney Council is doing today to meet the challenge.
There are a limited number of free tickets to the event, at which there will be free food and drink.
