OPINION: The policy (practiced not just by Hackney but by pretty much every urban authority) of keeping through traffic out of residential streets and concentrating it on “main” streets was sure to eventually produce a reaction since these main streets are the ones which have the most people outside and exposed, not just at schools but also for shopping and businesses. The surprise is that it has taken so long. Steps to reduce overall traffic volume, not just displace it, are required.
