Amongst the shows over the next seven days, artist Rie Nakajima brings two regular collaborators together to coincide with her ongoing exhibition at Birmingham’s Ikon gallery, which combines found objects, largely made from concrete and metal, to make new kinetic assemblages; vehicles for a sonic adventure with an unknown destination.
This week’s digital release is a set from New York improvising vocalist, composer, and performance artist Shelley Hirsch and Swiss turntables and electronic musician Joke Lanz(Sudden Infant), who met at a festival in Biel, Switzerland, where they were both performing solo. Shelley was struck by his performance and Joke admitted that he has “loved her work since the early ’80s.” Booked to play OTO as part of NEXT festival, the pair explored consciousness, both immediate and memory based, and drew on personal experience to create a three act improvisation which reinterprets the strange and the known.
New announcements this week include a three-day residency from Wolf Eyes, and Apartment House launch the second part of Another Timbre’s acclaimed Canadian Composer Series.
