Amongst the shows over the next seven days, we host a two-day residency with Ingrid Laubrock’s Anti-House 4 (Ingrid Laubrock / Mary Halvorson / Kris Davis / Tom Rainey). The group’s quicksilver-like and imaginative blend of strong individual voices with Laubrock’s compositions makes for a thrilling listening experience. The compositions straddle the boundaries of improvisation, new music and avant- jazz. Between them, the musicians have performed with Anthony Braxton, Jason Moran, Craig Taborn, Tim Berne, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian and many others.
This week we’re making 3 more Confront Recordings available, and have chosen recordings from artists due to play here over the coming weeks. Graham Halliwell and Lee Patterson’s ‘Terrain’ is a rich work of feedback, processing and amplified devices; Patterson makes a return on the 14th in support of Miki Yui. OTO regular Roger Turner features twice this week – once alongside microtonal trumpeter Axel Dorner and double bass player Dom Lash on Uncanny Valley, and again as one half of his classic duo with Phil Minton on Scraps on Heard. Totally different sounds on each recording from Turner, who returns in a trio with Satoko Fujii and trumpeter Natsuki Tamura on the 16th May.
New announcements this week include residencies with Ghanaian electronic/rap/highlife icon, Ata Kak, and Nathaniel Mackey and the Creaking Breeze Ensemble.
