At Cafe OTO

Amongst the shows over the next seven days, we’re delighted to welcome one of the great contemporary pianists, Alexander Hawkins, to OTO for a specially curated three-day residency covering an eclectic cross-section of Hawkins’ expansive musical output. Whether it’s performing his own compositions with ensemble, playing with regular collaborators such as Elaine Mitchener and John Edwards, or guesting with the likes of Joe McPhee, Louis Moholo and Evan Parker, Hawkins has provided a huge array of standout moments at OTO over the years and it’s a pleasure to play host to him for several performances across three days.

This week we add 5 releases from the latest label to join the shop – James Lindbloom’s Roaratorio. Having started out in 2000 with a special Steve Lacy release (Sideways), Roaratorio has gone on to release new and archival material from artists such as Philip CornerDavid MaranthaNelson GastaldiJoe McPhee, and Sun Ra. More to come over the summer, but for now you can find these first few here.

New annoiuncements this week included shows for Ken Vandermark / Paal Nilssen-LoveThe Dwarfs of East Agouza, and a special two-day residency for Burton Greene.

OTO RECOMMENDS:

Performance Opportunities at hcmf//

hcmf// shorts is a series of short informal performances which will take place on Monday 19 November 2018 in various venues across Huddersfield. The day provides emerging artists with a valuable platform to perform for members of the public, media and key music industry representatives within a programme of events also featuring established artists.

The shorts call is open to UK-based performers, who will have the opportunity to receive professional mentoring as part of the hcmf// shorts scheme. We will offer five successful applicants a grant to supplement travel and accommodation expenses.

Proposals are welcomed from all types of performers, included but not limited to solo performers, ensembles, electro-acoustic, performance, sound or noise artists, and works can be especially composed or existing pieces. There are no age limits.
