At Cafe OTO

Amongst the shows over the next week, we welcome back RP Boo – a.k.a. Kavain Space – a man who is revered and respected amongst the dance music cognoscenti. He’s cited as one of the originators of Footwork, the fast, repetitive, rhythmically syncopated music & dance style that’s a grandchild of Chicago house and which has been brought to the wider world via releases from Planet Mu and others, alongside internet archaeology from fans, experts and enthusiasts.

This week we’re excited to announce the first of many new labels to be added the OTO digital shop – Bill Nace’s Open Mouth. We’re kicking off with the trilogy of releases from electronic musician, percussionist and composer Jake Meginsky. While nodding to minimal house, dub, and noise, Meginsky’s electronics bear ample evidence of his apprenticeship with avant-jazz percussionist Milford Graves and his training in West African djun djun and djembe. Meginsky’s rhythmic sensibility is supple and flexible and totally hardcore. He’ll be playing here next Monday the 9th, and the show is free for members. No excuses!

New show announcements this week include an album launch for Hannah Silva, and the first shows at OTO in half a decade for legendary singer, songwriter, artist, folk hobo Michael Hurley.

Full listings and all new shows below. We look forward to seeing you here.
