At Cafe OTO

Hi there

Amongst the shows over the next week, we’re very excited to welcome cult New York band God Is My Co-Pilot to OTO for their first London show in years! In early 2000s, the band dispersed to the round earth’s imagined corners (Sweden, Scotland, Massachusetts, Switzerland, Brooklyn, etc) and reconvened only occasionally. However last year, on the instigation of drummer Kevin Shea, they started playing again in NY. One thing led to another, and here they are in the UK, doing songs old and new.

This week’s digital release is a set from French folk singer, harpist, spinet and hurdy-gurdy player Emmanuelle Parrennin, who creates an unearthly atmostphere with her vocals and a wired approach to instrumentation. Though in the past Parrennin has collected songs around rural France in a similar manner to the work carried out by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins, this isn’t simply revival folk; there’s a tinge of a strange future to every song.

New show announcements this week include a welcome return to OTO for RP Boo, and a show for Brooklyn based multidisciplinary artist, Rose Kallal.

Full listings and all new shows below. We look forward to seeing you here.

DIGITAL RELEASE:

EMMANUELLE PARRENIN – 3.11.17

£6 (£5 Venue Members) /
Digital Members: Download with credits

Surrounded by handmade instruments, French folk singer, harpist, spinet and hurdy-gurdy player Emmanuelle Parrennin delivered an entrancing solo set to a winter crowd. Stripped of some of the more electronic, psychedelic tones that appeared on Maison Rose and Pérélandra, Parrennin creates an unearthly atmostphere with her vocals and a wired approach to instrumentation. Though in the past Parrennin has collected songs around rural France in a similar manner to the work carried out by Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins, this isn’t simply revival folk; there’s a tinge of a strange future to every song.

Available as 320k MP3 or 24 bit FLAC
