Ishirini is a chamber choir that delights in performing in unusual places. Since their inaugural tour to Tanzania in 2009, the group, led by director Jeremy Rouse and Stoke Newington resident Jo Willmott, have travelled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and they have also sung in a large number of locations in the UK. Their music is strongly rooted in the Anglican tradition, but they always explore music special to the place they are performing in, which has led them to sing Hindu liturgical music in a temple in Nepal and most recently polyphony from a 4000 year old tradition in the mountainous regions of Georgia.

In this concert, an hour-long recital in the newly stabilised chapel of Abney Park, they have been inspired by the music and writings of the hymn writer Isaac Watts, who is fundamentally connected to the park. His hymns will be interspersed with pieces by Purcell, Byrd, Howell and others setting the same and related texts.
