Amongst the shows over the next week, we host two evenings of performances of text based scores by Antoine Beuger and Emmanuelle Waeckerlé. “Speak// if you can” brings together a composer, a writer and several interpreters of text scores. The evenings will explore the points of transformation and translation between text and sound. Antoine Beuger, a founder member of the Wandelweiser collective, has a long established interest in the crossovers between text scores and literary and philosophical texts. Taking the work of Waeckerlé and Beuger as a starting point, the two evenings will present new configurations of voice and musical sound, building on George Oppen’s injunction: “Speak// if you can”.
To keep on the Wandelweiser theme, this week we’re delighted to add composer Eva-Maria Houben’s record label Diafani to the digital shop. “Rather like Jürg Frey’s guitar music, she sets the piano’s sounds within the surrounding silence and not against it” writes Ben Harper. We’ve added every title available, and will be adding more as she releases.
New show announcements this week include American musician, composer and performance artist Miya Masaoka performing a brace of special, one-off duo sets with Jennifer Walshe and David Toop, plus Tanzanian electronic outfit, Sounds of Sisso.
