A Unique Night-Time Performance inspired by the Sounds of Abney.
Friday October 27th – 8pm to 9pm
A delicate and atmospheric performance of music, sound art and live projected visuals in Abney Park Chapel
This event will be as much about listening to Abney – its sounds as they come through the Chapel’s open windows – as it will be about the performers responding to them.
HOWLROUND create sounds by manipulating loops of natural acoustics via a collection of vintage reel-to-reel tape machines. Their shows and installations have taken place to great acclaim (see The Wire and elsewhere) in unusual locations all over the country, including last year in Brompton Cemetery Chapel.
JENNI RODITI is a composer, conductor and vocalist who combines exquisitely sensitive improvisational skills with spectacular technique. A resumé of her stellar career is available here:
CHARLOTTE CHW is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily with sound and the body. Formerly half of Hysteresis, she has performed sound work Europe-wide.
ADAM KINSEY is a sculptor and sound artist currently exploring the possibilities of modular synthesis, which he will use live on-site to process field recordings he’s taken from Abney itself – providing a gently manipulated ambient layer of Abney’s own sounds throughout the performance.
Under the name RUCKSACK CINEMA Jaime Rory Lucy specialises in bringing gorgeous light shows to unlikely places. Using multiple projectors he mixes material from an array of sources to create complex, subtle visuals that respond live, moment by moment.
SAM ENTHOVEN: A musician and sound artist. He plays analogue synths, found sounds and a unique instrument from the dawn of electronic music – the theremin.
Tickets are available in advance only and are strictly limited in number. The audience will meet at Abney Park’s Main Gates on Stoke Newington High Street, N16 0LH at 7.30pm, after the rest of the Park is closed to the public. Once your name and ticket have been checked, stewards will lead you to the Chapel for the performance, which will take place between 8 and 9pm.
Tickets cost £15 (£11 conc.) This price includes a contribution towards the ongoing activities of Abney Park Trust a complimentary drink, to help keep out the cold.
