Amongst the shows over the next seven days, we’re delighted to welcome saxophonist, band leader and composer, Shabaka Hutchings to OTO for a three day residency spanning the wide range of his constantly evolving creative output. Hutchings, is a key part of London’s community of younger jazz musicians as well as the city’s thriving improvised music scene. For Hutchings, composition is a chronicle of the zeitgeist inhabited by a composer; an exposition of his or her search for meaning and the structuring of experiences in aid of recognising this meaning when it appears.
This week’s digital release is a set from Brazilian composer-performer Manuel Lima, featuring a live re-working of his brilliant release on Editions Verde plus some plus new and gold material. Following randomly generated instructions dictated to him from a Python script, Lima fuses sound from Youtube videos, analogue synthesiser and cassette recorder, alongside English to Portuguese translation phrases to delightful effect.
New shows announced this week include a rare duo performance from multidisciplinary artist, Mark Fell and computational artist and theorist, Ernest Edmonds, plus Terre Thaemlitzmakes a welcome return to OTO for two nights spanning the extensive and eclectic range of a formidable creative output.
