Amongst the shows over the next seven days, we host Unconscious Archives #21, featuring Australian visual and sound artist Ross Manning, a new collaboration between London based sound stalwarts Dan Hayhurst (Sculpture) and Graham Dunning which promises an onslaught of deteriorated beats and hissing analogue machines, plus expanded cinema and sound artist Sally Golding presenting shifting hallucinogenic sonified light fields, and UK electronic music producer Spatial filling in the cracks providing noisy and dancey DJ delights.
This week’s digital release is set from Accident du Travail – the stunning duo of France’s Julie Normal and Olivier Demeaux. At the centre of their sound is one of the last remaining ondes Martenot’s – an instrument loved by Messiaen and Varese, and carefully packed up and shipped across the channel to OTO last year by a worried Julie. Beautifully paced, the pair create a sort of precarious evensong for an alternate universe – perfect for this year!
Originally formed as DAWSON-DAVIES: HEN OGLEDD by avant folk savant Richard Dawson and improv harp pioneer Rhodri Davies, now they’ve dropped the surnames and become a trio with the addition of Dawn Bothwell, who also performs altered electronic torch songs as Pentecostal Party. It’s been a transformative move, Dawson playing guitar, iPad and a panoply of table top knick knacks, Rhodri cleaving new spaces open with his blazing harp splutterations, with Bothwell’s sweet and sour voice and electronics taking the three of them down unexplored avenues littered with hypnotic diversions and long moments of delirium.
