Amongst the shows over the next seven days, we have Chicago-based composer, curator/performer of experimental music, and educator, Nomi Epstein. Epstein joins theSet Ensemble to co-curate and perform a concert featuring text scores by Chicago’s Billie Howard, Los Angeles’ James Klopfleisch and Colin Wambsgans, and a mini version of Epstein’s conceptual chamber opera for instruments (with or without voice) – Translation.
On Tuesday, we have a stacked line-up of the best new weird sounds from Glasgow, including Still House Plants, who craft post-modern power ballads via free jazz in an emotional territory that touches upon such diverse figures as Robert Wyatt, Ornette Coleman and Elysia Crampton. Fragments of guitar, melismatic vocal mantra, sax, bass and percussion combine in a spirit of glowing minimalism to create something truly wonderful.
