Part of Shakespeare In Shoreditch Screenings
Shakespeare Screenings is a collection of William Shakespeare’s best-known and most original film adaptations shown in some Hackney’s most iconic and enchanting venues and spaces. The screenings run alongside the Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival which runs from the 20th April to 30th April 2016 in Shoreditch and across Hackney to mark 400 years since Shakespeare’s death.
Shakespeare spent his early years in Shoreditch, based at two of the UK’s earliest theatres The Theatre and then The Curtain in the 1590s, premiering plays such as Romeo and Juliet. Both theatres were located on Curtain Road in Shoreditch.
Tickets: free – Reserve a place
Hackney local boy Michael Fassbender takes on the meatiest of all Shakespeare’s roles in last year’s modern, gritty re-telling of “the Scottish play”.
This adaptation is strong medicine indeed with ferocious battle scenes, intense performances from a never-better Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as Lady Macbeth, and sweeping, atmospheric camera work. This is proper, intelligent Shakespeare that crackles with a fiery, guttural energy.
Presented on a big outdoor screen in the heart of Dalston.
Refreshments available from Kaffa Coffee – celebrating 5 years.
