Explore Hackney’s historic cemetery and nature reserve. From religious dissenters to inventors, from fungi to wildlife, explore this unique part of the capital on our monthly guided tour.

WOODLAND MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS
23, 27 Jan, 14 Feb, 10.30am
Join experienced arborealist, Tree Musketeer and Abney’s tree expert, Russell Miller, for a free woodland management workshop.
Ride maintenance, cutting back woody plants from path edges, some formative pruning of trees and some planting of flowering shrubs. Also veteran tree management in later workshops.
Please dress for the weather in clothes that will protect you from scratches and scrapes and wear sturdy boots. 
We can provide gloves, tools, tea, coffee and biscuits!

GREEN WOOD WORKING
ONE-DAY SPOON CARVING COURSES

20, 30 Jan, 3, 6, 24, 27 Feb, 9am-4pm
£60 per person (full fee payable in advance)

Suitable for beginners and those with some wood carving experience (over 18s only), these one-day courses cover selecting wood, spoon design, splitting, axe technique, knife grips and knife finishing.
All wood and tools provided.

INTRODUCTION TO GREEN WOOD WORKING
8-11 Feb, 9am-4pm
£160/ £100 concessions (limited places) payable in advance

Over four days of structured sessions, participants will learn green woodwork basics including:

  • the principles of green woodwork
  • how to work safely with hand tools
  • tool sharpening
  • using green woodwork tools especially an axe and a knife.

This course is intended to give you the skills and confidence to continue with green woodwork at home or at the Abney workshop after the course. Once you have completed the course, you will be welcome to attend our open workshop sessions, which run every Thursday.
All wood and tools provided.
