At Cafe OTO

Hi there

This weekend we host a weekend of exploratory music to mark 50 extraordinary years of the legendary AMM! With Keith Rowe re-joining Eddie Prévost and John Tilbury for a performance on Saturday night, there’ll also be a discussion on the impact and influence of AMM with WIRE writer Philip Clark, and a concert from Prévost’s weekly workshop – also celebrating its 16 year anniversay. To mark this weekend’s celebrations, this week’s download for our digital membership is a special set from Evan Parker & AMM, recorded as part of the week of concerts in October 2014 organised to celebrate Evan Parker’s 70th birthday.

Amongst the newly announced shows this week we welcome back the dark enigma of the Japanese avant-garde – Keiji Haino –  after a thunderous performance here last September. Expect an ever-unpredictable evening of hallowed blues, noise assualt and spry improvisation.

All of this week’s listings and newly announced shows below.

Hope to see you here.

OTO RECOMMENDS:

AN EVENING WITH MEW
VILLAGE UNDERGROUND

Danish noise-meisters Mew play a pair of rare, combined live and acoustic performances at Village Underground, Shoreditch on 14th & 15th December.

Playing tracks from their latest album, ‘+ -‘ all skewed pop sensibility coupled with an ever expansive musical backdrop denotes the extremities of the band’s creative DNA and shows once more a band treading their own unique path.

OTO RECOMMENDS:

CESURA//ACCESO – Call for Issue 2.

Cesura//Acceso are currently accepting submissions for their second issue, to be published in June 2016.

The central theme will be: Corrupting Desires! Technique, Performance and Control.

“We want to think about how music is made and experienced – revealing limits, exclusions, desires, strategies, optimism and pessimism. Frustrations, constraints and manipulations of makers and listeners often condition the ways we can feel or think through our engagements with music. We want to prise these contradictions in music open, revealing some of its fractures, as well as its generative and emancipatory possibilities.”
