Simon’s Marathon Update

Hackney Lib Dem Chair, Simon De Deney will be running in the London Marathon.

Hi All
So. Almost there. Just the small matter of 26.2 miles in between me and finally hanging up my marathon shoes. It’s been, uh, time-consuming. Glad I’ve done it (the training at least), but I don’t think I’ll be racing to the next one. The weather has been particularly unpleasant. I met an American a month ago who confided that if she’d thought things through, she’d never have gone for the London Marathon. You train in the grimmest weather. And along the way I’ve fractured my right elbow, bruised my ribs (that was skiing, so no sympathy needed) and tested my family’s patience to breaking point.

What keeps you going is the enormous warmth (and worried disbelief) from friends. Oxfam have also been fantastically supportive. You can see the results of the donations here. We hit target. Thank you.

If you’d like to embrace your inner geek, you can follow my halting progress on the day online or on your smartphone, tablet or ouija board. Just let me know and I’ll send you an invite via something called ‘Glympse’.
A big thank you to Oxfam who have extended an invitation to all race day friends to their Post Race reception at The British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH. If I make it around the time I’m aiming for we should be there from around 2ish. It would be great to see you there.Cross fingers and deep breath (well, several)

All the best
